Choosing Upholstery Fabric for Different Uses
Colour, pattern and texture are not enough on their own when choosing upholstery fabric. The furniture’s location, intensity of use, daylight exposure, care expectations and your lifestyle all need to be considered together.

Everyday sofas and seating
For sofas and chairs used daily in living rooms and family spaces, consider more than appearance. Intensity of use, care expectations, surface structure and comfort all matter. A fabric looking very thick is not proof of durability; technical performance should be verified separately.
Armchairs and decorative furniture
Armchairs, pouffes, decorative chairs and accent pieces offer more freedom with colour, pattern and texture. Velvet can work in classic, modern and contemporary interiors; textured, patterned or suede-effect surfaces can be chosen to suit the furniture’s character. Although there is no absolute rule, a bold pattern such as leopard print can be a balanced choice for an accent piece rather than being used throughout a room.
Heavy use and special conditions
Ease of care and performance become more important for dining chairs, family seating and frequently used furniture. In homes with children or pets, assess surface structure, susceptibility to snagging and verified cleaning properties separately. Absolute claims such as “pet-friendly”, “scratch-proof” or “stain-proof” should not be made without supporting product data.
