Curtain and textile support for project teams

Technical curtain, blind and textile guidance for architects and interior designers, from early coordination to installation.

Our approach

Pile Perde supports architects and interior designers with samples, system selection, measurement, production coordination and installation planning.

What to expect

We advise on curtain and textile requirements; architectural, electrical and structural design responsibilities remain with the relevant project disciplines.

Planning Window Treatments Early in a ProjectWindow-treatment planning should begin before ceiling and electrical decisions are closed. Reviewing the window geometry, operation, track or pocket provision and potential motorisation early reduces later intervention and aligns the architectural intent with daily use.Assessing Windows, Openings and Use ScenariosTwo windows of the same size may need different treatments when their opening direction and daily use differ. Assessment should cover sash movement, circulation, outward view, operating frequency and where the curtains or blinds will stack.Coordinating Window Treatments with Architectural DetailsWindow treatments should not be specified independently of ceiling levels, window frames, wall offsets, furniture or building services. The track centreline and fabric movement should be checked in section in both closed and stacked positions.Decisions to Resolve Before Curtain InstallationBefore production, approve the system, dimensions, track, heading, opening direction, motor provision and installation scope for every opening—not only the fabric. Closing these decisions in one schedule prevents teams working from outdated drawings or incomplete samples.Selecting Sheer Curtains, Dress Curtains and Complementary FabricsSheer curtains, dress curtains and complementary fabrics should divide the roles of daylight control, privacy and visual framing rather than duplicate one another. Review the samples together for hanging appearance, drape and colour in the actual project light.Coordinating Colour, Texture and MaterialColour and texture coordination is about establishing a relationship between dominant, supporting and accent materials—not making every surface identical. Curtain samples should be viewed at sufficient scale beside walls, flooring and upholstery under the same light.Evaluating Samples and Fabric CollectionsUse a collection swatch for initial selection and a larger sample to judge colour, texture, light transmission and drape under project conditions. Wherever possible, view it at the window and alongside the other specified materials.Planning Curtain and Upholstery Fabrics TogetherCurtain and upholstery fabrics do not have to match. Curtains frame a large vertical surface while upholstery carries regular contact, so undertone, texture and pattern scale should be coordinated without losing each material’s practical role.Selecting Motorised Window Treatments for a ProjectSelect a motorised window treatment from the opening dimensions, fabric load, operating frequency, power provision and control scenario—not convenience alone. Confirm motor and track capacity from current manufacturer data.Power and Cabling for Motorised CurtainsThe electrical team should plan power and cabling after the motor type and control arrangement are selected. Locate the supply on the motor side without obstructing the curtain pocket or service access, and verify the cable route before the ceiling is closed.Controls and Automation for Motorised CurtainsA controls plan defines which curtains operate individually or in groups, from which interface and under which scenarios. The control method must be compatible with the selected motor, with any lighting or home-control interface verified by the controls team.Curtain Pockets and Motor SpaceA motorised curtain pocket must accommodate the motor body, connection, fabric layers and future service access—not only the track. Set its dimensions from the selected system and mark the motor side clearly.Window Treatments for Large Glazed OpeningsSpecify window treatments for large glazing from the opening width and height, fabric load, track capacity, stack depth and daily operation. Balance the desire for one continuous treatment with manufacturer limits and practical access.Fabrics and Tracks for Double-Height SpacesAs curtain length increases in a double-height space, fabric weight, drape and track load increase together. Plan fabric width, seams, heading, installation height and future maintenance access as one system before production. When to Specify Motorised Curtains for Large GlazingConsider motorised curtains where manual movement is difficult, access is limited or several treatments need reliable group control. The decision should follow the actual fabric load and use scenario, not glazing size alone.Comfort and Control for Tall, Wide OpeningsOperational comfort means that a treatment is easy to reach, does not obstruct circulation and repeats its movement reliably in frequent use. Define stack direction, control points, grouping and service access during design.Evaluating Daylight in a ProjectDaylight assessment is more than measuring brightness. It considers glare, outward view, screen use and privacy over the day, with façade orientation and occupancy informing when each window-treatment layer is required.Coordinating Screen, Blackout, Sheer and Curtain LayersScreen blinds, blackout products, sheer curtains and dress curtains can serve different daylight, view and privacy needs rather than act as alternatives. A coordinated scheme defines the role and movement of each layer within the available track or pocket.Planning Privacy in Window-Treatment DesignPrivacy changes between day and night. A sheer or screen may limit inward views in daylight yet become insufficient after internal lights are switched on, requiring a second closing layer.Solar Control by Façade OrientationFaçade orientation affects the timing and angle of solar exposure, but it is not the only design input. Surrounding shade, glazing, room use and occupancy hours determine the required filtering, shading or room-darkening layer.Selecting Curtain Tracks for a ProjectSelect a curtain track from the fabric layers, total load, opening, draw direction and fixing substrate. Single, double and motorised tracks must allow comfortable movement and future service as well as meeting the visual intent.Planning Curtain Pocket DimensionsThere is no universal curtain-pocket size. Width and depth depend on the approved track arrangement, fabric volume, heading, motor body, distance from the glazing and maintenance access.Assessing Ceilings and Substrates for Curtain InstallationThe fixing substrate must be prepared to support the selected track and total curtain load. Confirm the substrate, concealed services, finish build-up and fixing access with the relevant project and installation teams before work begins.Ceiling Details to Check Before Curtain InstallationBefore installation, check the track centreline, curtain pocket, finished ceiling level, supporting substrate, motor space and concealed services together. This confirms that production dimensions correspond to the actual fixing conditions.Harmonising Curtains and Upholstery in a ProjectCurtain and upholstery fabrics need not be identical. Build cohesion through a shared undertone, balanced texture, controlled pattern scale and the correct functional role for each material, assessed under the same project light.Establishing Colour and Texture CohesionColour and texture cohesion is a hierarchy, not a requirement to match every textile. Define the main surface, supporting textiles and accents, then compare undertone, sheen and pattern intensity under the same light.Comparing Textile Samples in the Same SpaceCompare textile samples together in their intended room, close to the window and furniture where possible. Review daylight and artificial light, face direction, sheen, transmission and contrast with surrounding finishes.Planning a Coherent Textile LanguageA coherent textile language gives curtains, upholstery and accents clear roles within the architecture instead of asking every element to compete. Plan repetition, contrast and quieter areas as part of one material hierarchy. Why Professional Curtain Measurement MattersProfessional curtain measurement records more than window width and height. It verifies finished surfaces, track centreline, fabric layers, heading, motor side and obstructions as the shared production and installation reference.Planning Curtain Production and MakingRelease production only when the approved fabric code, final measurements, heading, draw direction and seam decisions are complete in one schedule. This connects material procurement, making and installation to the same revision.Coordinating Curtain Installation within a ProjectPlan curtain installation when finishes and access are ready, with each product, track and opening reference verified. Sequence the work around ceilings, electrical connections, furniture and final cleaning to reduce damage and repeat visits.Post-Installation Curtain ChecksPost-installation checks confirm that the correct treatment is fitted to each opening, the track moves properly, and finished length and heading match the approval. For motorised systems, test individual and group commands, limits and user controls. How an Architectural Curtain Project Works in AnkaraAn architectural curtain project in Ankara begins with the brief and project information, then moves through samples and system selection, site measurement, production, installation and final checks. Scope is agreed at the outset for the particular space and programme.Site Survey and Measurement in AnkaraA site survey reviews ceilings, window frames, light, furniture, electrical provision and use as well as measuring openings. Final production dimensions follow once the selected system is known and the relevant finished surfaces are ready.Supporting Curtain Projects Outside AnkaraProjects outside Ankara are first reviewed through drawings, an opening schedule, photographs and operating requirements. Samples, system advice and production support depend on scope; on-site survey, measuring or installation are not automatic commitments.Planning Support for International Curtain ProjectsInternational project support starts by defining the project information, samples, system and fabric coordination, and production scope. Local measurement, regulations, electrical work, logistics and installation responsibilities must be separated clearly; site attendance is assessed project by project.
