01Band construction, daylight and privacy
Day and night blinds adjust incoming light by moving alternating sheer and denser bands across two layers. Aligning the sheer bands allows more daylight and outward visibility; overlapping the denser bands increases closure. Complete blackout or privacy under every lighting condition should not be assumed. Samples are assessed in daylight and with the room lit after dark.
02Cassettes and the window opening
In the kitchen of the Lotus Çayyolu project, three separate cassette blinds were used at a window without a curtain pelmet. The opening centre section and two fixed panes operated independently, so window access and band alignment were planned together. This is one completed application, not a universal specification: frame depth, opening leaves, fixing surfaces and side clearances are measured for each window.
03Measurement, operation and care
Fabric, mechanism and controls are selected around window dimensions and everyday use. The fixing and accessibility of a manual chain need particular consideration in spaces used by children. Motorised operation requires compatibility to be checked for the selected system. Cleaning follows the manufacturer’s instructions for the fabric code; removing and washing the fabric or using strong chemicals is not suitable for every day and night blind.
