01Choosing a system for tall glazing
Sheer curtains can soften daylight, while heavier curtains add privacy and a more substantial finish. Motorised curtain tracks are worth considering for large or hard-to-reach openings. Roller or vertical blinds offer a different way to control light across broad glazed surfaces. Choose the system around the opening, the direction of sunlight and everyday use rather than height alone.
02Measuring and planning the installation
A site survey should check the full width and drop, floor levels, the mounting surface and clearance around opening windows or doors. Plan track length and the space needed when the curtains are drawn back. Fabric, lining and fullness affect the total weight, so the support system and fixings need to be assessed together. Agree access for measuring and installation before the curtains are made.
03Operation and future maintenance
For motorised operation, discuss the fabric load, suitable motor, power supply and preferred controls at the planning stage. The arrangement should also allow access for future servicing and removal of the curtains for care. Compare fabric samples and consider seams, lining and cleaning requirements before finalising the scheme. The project photographs below show existing installations; the most suitable arrangement still depends on your own glazing and room.
