Harmonising Curtains and Upholstery in a Project
Curtain and upholstery fabrics need not be identical. Build cohesion through a shared undertone, balanced texture, controlled pattern scale and the correct functional role for each material, assessed under the same project light.Why it matters at project stage
Curtains occupy a large vertical plane while upholstery is a high-contact surface viewed closely. Their aesthetic relationship should preserve the different requirements for drape, use and care.
Information required
Compare each fabric’s purpose, undertone, texture, pattern scale, sample behaviour in the same light, care information and documented suitability for its intended application.
Reaching a project decision
Keep a dominant pattern to one principal surface and repeat its colour or texture more quietly elsewhere. In a tonal scheme, separate materials through texture; in a contrasting scheme, retain a connecting undertone.
Coordination through delivery
Review the samples with furniture, flooring and wall finishes. When one product changes, reassess the full textile palette rather than approving the substitute in isolation.
